Vancouver's weather for the summer of 2015 has so far been warm and sunny, so we were shocked to see rain and wind on the morning of our planned summer event in the garden at the home of our Treasurer, Diane Blaney. Fortunately, the sun came out in the afternoon and we enjoyed a few hours of social gathering and a Crab Boil prepared by Chef Robin Kort of Swallow Tail Canada. Following a demonstration of preparation of live Dungeness crab for the crab boil, we sat at a long table on the grass for a tasty meal of corn on the cob, slathered with butter, fresh baked corn bread, chefs coleslaw, baby potatoes and crab with local clams and mussels and kielbasa sausage. Wines were selected from our cellar and included a lovely light and fresh 2013 Quinta da Aveleda Loureiro Alvarinho. Following our crab boil, our organizer and new Cellarmaster, Kim Mead, produced a delicious summer peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream and a tasty Muscat Beaumes de Venise—a perfect ending to our al fresco meal!
