We have held a selection of several wines from the excellent 2010 Bordeaux vintage and opened them at 12 years old for a tasting at the always superb Vancouver Club. We were led through our tasting by Master Sommelier Leagh Barkley and greatly benefitted from his experience with 6 years in Bordeaux and 3 years of teaching the Bordelais about their wines. His presentation was excellent with many gems of information about the region, the vintage and the winemakers. Our wines were tasted in a geographical progression with the Right Bank wines preceding the Left Bank wines.

Following a Bordeaux cocktail featuring Lillet and a dry Graves white wine accompanied by a foie gras canape, the wines tasted, in order, were 2010 Château d'Aiguilhe, Côtes de Castillon; 2010 Château la Vieille Curé, Fronsac; 2010 Château Le Moulin, Pomerol; 2010 Château Teyssier St Emilion; 2010 Château Carignan Cadillac, Côtes de Bordeaux; 2010 Château Brown, Pessac-Leognan and from the Left Bank 2010 Château Belle-Vue, Haut Medoc; 2010 Château d’Angludet, Margaux; 2010 Château Lalande-Borie, St. Julien and 2010 Château Le Crock, St. Estèphe.

All of the Right Bank wines were delicious and ready to drink while the Left Bank wines showed a little more class and, while they were very approachable now, they will continue to hold for some years yet. In particular the Château d’Angludet was an excellent wine.

Following the tasting, we enjoyed a chacuterie platter with cheeses. Our thanks go to the Club’s Director of Restaurants and Bars, Sommelier Leagh Barkley for his excellent guide through the wines and to General Manager Tim Ellison for his gracious assistance in arranging the event.
