Finally! At last we have been able to enjoy a dinner event indoors – an al fresco luncheon is very enjoyable but our Christmas dinner event just had to be enjoyed in one of Vancouver’s fine restaurants. And what a wonderful dinner it was! Boulevard Kitchen provided such a magnificently prepared meal with excellent service and an opportunity to socialise at our champagne reception where we had two IWFS award presentations. The first, the IWFS Silver Medallion, to our Treasurer Diane Blaney for over five years of exceptional service in managing our finances and the second, the Andre Simon Bronze Medal to Milena Robertson for twenty years as Historian, Web Master, Publicist among other duties, making sure that everything runs smoothly for our Branch.
Our evening started with a glass of Le Mesnil Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs with canapés – Tuna Tartare on a Nori Crisp, Dungeness Crab Salad in a Cucumber Cup and Squash Tartlettes with Apple and Sunflower Seeds. We were then seated for our first course of Celeriac Risotto with Seared Hokkaido Scallop and Hazlenut Brown Butter paired with 2014 Louis Jadot Mâcon-Villages Domaine de la Grange Magnien followed by Thiessen Farm BBQ 5 spice quail and 2011 Paul Garaudet Monthélie 1er Cru Le Meix Bataille.
Our main course comprised Grass-fed Beef Striploin with Roasted Maitake Mushroom, Confit Shallot, Potato Espuma and a red wine jus with 1998 Château Bel-Air Lagrave and finishing with Chef Kenta’s Special Dessert paired with 1997 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey. A splendid finish to a splendid evening!
