The IWFS Vancouver Branch enjoyed a large turnout of members for a reception lunch at the home of President Jim and Milena Robertson. We had the pleasure on meeting Dave Felton, Chair of the Festival and events Committee of the Board of Governors of the Americas, and his charming wife Mitsuko, to hear about ideas for the upcoming International Conference scheduled for Vancouver in September 2012. It was a great brainstorming opportunity at this early planning stage and Dave was impressed with the enthusiasm of our group.
Our event was catered by Chef Taryn Wa of Savoury Chef and was accompanied by a selection of BC wines. Our canapés included many local foods and we were presented with Beef Carpaccio, Freshly Shucked Kusshi Oysters, Tomato Tart Tatin, Niçoise “Salad”, Smoked Duck Salad and a delicious Buffalo Croquette, followed by platters of patés and terrine, antipasto and vegetables and a selection of BC cheeses with breads and crackers. Our sweet finale was a dessert of Chocolate Ganache Tarte and also a delicious layered White Vanilla Verrine. Thank you Chef Taryn!
The selection of white wines included 2007 Blue Mountain Chardonnay, 2008 Sandhill Pinot Gris, 2008 Tantalus Riesling, 2008 Lake Breeze Pinot Gris, 2009 Lake Breeze Pinot Blanc, 2008 Mission Hills Five Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc, 2008 Wild Goose Gewürztraminer. Our red wines were 2007 Nk’Mip Merlot, 2007 Quails’ Gate Pinot Noir, Stewart Family Reserve, 2007 See Ya Later Rover, 2008 Road 13 Rockpile, 2007 CedarCreek Pinot Noir and 2006 Sumac Ridge Black Sage Merlot.
