Another first for the Vancouver Branch of the IW&FS – the first food and wine group to enjoy a delicious dinner at Hervé Martin's new restaurant, The French Table. Located on Main Street, The French Table offers exceptional bistro fare in a true French style. We were greeted with a glass of 2005 Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs, a beautifully mature sparkling wine from California, and delicious canapés including traditional gougères. Our first course featured Seared Scallops and Crispy Pork, with a Green Apple Emulsion and Potatoes Roesti accompanied by a 2006 William Fèvre Chablis Premier Cru "Fourchaume" and followed with a salad of Baby Greens and Arugula with a Dijon Mustard Vinaigrette.

Our main course was a Wild Mushroom and Herb Stuffed Leg of Lamb with a Rosemary Jus and Roasted Autumn Vegetables accompanied by a 2004 Pétales d'Osoyoos from the Okanagan's Osoyoos Larose winery, followed by a delicious A la Minute Tarte Tatin à la Mode with a 2001 Château Roumieu Sauternes. All in all, an excellent meal in a lovely new bistro with great service. Our thanks go to Cellar Master Jim Esplen for his selection and comments on the wines, to Photographer and Historian Milena Robertson and to Proprietor Hervé Martin and his team who provided such an enjoyable evening.
