The Secret Location is a secret no more! Located at 1 Water Street in historic Gastown, this lovely restaurant offers exquisite dishes prepared by Chef Jefferson Alvarez and his team. Our members and their guests enjoyed an evening with a delicious eight course tasting menu accompanied by fine wines.
A selection of Chef's canapés was accompanied by a 2010 Cave de Lugny Crémant de Bourgogne before we were seated for Chef's snacks of Bison Tartare on a Lentil Cracker, followed by Squash Skin with Tonka Mascarpone and finally Squid Ink Brioche with Smoked Ikura with a 2010 Clos Floridene from Graves. We continued with the same wine and Grilled Sardines with Basques and Black Olive Oil followed by Foie Gras à la Plancha on Brioche with fossilized berries and a perfect accompaniment of 1998 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey from Sauternes.
Our next course was Yak and Truffle Ravioli with Ramp Oil and Wild Mushrooms together with a 2005 Château de Beaucastel from Châteauneuf-du-Pape followed by Charcoal Marinated Bison with Yucca, Herbs and Tobacco Oil and 2007 Long Shadows Pedestal, a Merlot from the Columbia Valley.
After a refreshing Fresh Berry Soda Nitro to cleanse the palate, we ended our meal with Chef's Special Dessert Creation, appearing as a poached egg on the plate but with delicious flavours of citrus and white chocolate accompanied by a rare 1974 Terrassous Rivesaltes from the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
A spectacular dinner with spectacular wines was enjoyed by all and our thanks go to Chef Jefferson Alvarez and his brigade in the kitchen, Virginie Rins and the serving team, to our new Cellar Master Douglas Russell for his informative presentation on the wines, to Dr. Robert Rothwell for his accolade and to Milena Robertson for her artistic menu and her photographs of the evening.
