It was a privilege for our Vancouver members and guests to enjoy a tasting of Bordeaux wines from the highly rated 2005 vintage at the Four Seasons' iconic Chartwell room. We were guided through our tasting with a lively commentary by IW&FS Honorary President Sid Cross and his wife, Joan, who shared many personal experiences and an incredible knowledge of Bordeaux and its wines with us. Following a reception with 2010 Secret de Grand Bateau blanc, we honoured our past President and long-time Cellar Master David Spurrell with the well-deserved award of the IW&FS Americas Silver Medallion.

Our tasting included red wines from 2005 Chateaux Cabannieux (Graves), Rozier (St. Emilion), Marsau (Côtes de Franc), La Fleur de Bouard (Lalande de Pomerol), Potensac (Médoc), Petit Bocq (St. Estèphe), Lanessan (Haut-Médoc), Tour du Haut-Moulin (Haut-Médoc), Batailley (Pauillac) and finishing with a mature 1982 Château Batailley, a delightful comparison with the 2005's which are evolving very well. Our thanks to past Cellar Master Jim Esplen for his foresight in selecting these wines on release and to Sid Cross for his kindly-donated magnum of 1982 Château Batailley.
